Director of Athletics Jamie Joss has announced the addition of wrestling as the 24th varsity sport offering at Davis & Elkins College on Monday, as well as the hiring of Jerry Boland as the program’s first head coach.
Davis and Elkins, an NCAA Division II school that is a current member of the Great Midwest Athletic Conference, will gain membership to the Mountian East Conference for the 2019-2020 sports seasons when wrestling will also start competing.
Coach Jerry Boland, the program’s first ever wrestling coach will look to build his program right away by recruiting prospective student-athletes for next year’s team. A former NCAA Division III wrestler at Lycoming College, Boland was a two-year team captain, 2X National Qualifier, and a DIII All-American for the Warriors. As a coach, Boland has coached three New Jersey State Championship teams at Camden Catholic High School, as well as three individual New Jersey State Champions.
Davis & Elkins College is a private liberal arts college located in Elkins, West Virginia and is associated with the United States denomination of the Presbyterian Church. According to Scholarship Stats, in-state and out-of-state tuition is listed at $28,842, with males receiving an average scholarship of $6,558. With an enrollment close to 1,000 students, about 50% of those who apply will be admitted. For those being admitted, the average SAT scores range from 430-530 and ACT scores range 17-23.
Currently, there is no online recruit questionnaire or email contact yet for Coach Boland, so for anyone interested in wrestling at Davis and Elkins we suggest calling the athletic department at 304-637-1407 to learn where to send any email correspondence.
